What you should know about eldership at Jubilee City.
At Jubilee City Church, our Elders serve as under-shepherds of Christ, called to shepherd, oversee, and teach God’s people with humility and servant leadership. Following the New Testament pattern of plural eldership, our Elders serve together in shared spiritual oversight, providing pastoral care, protecting sound doctrine, and leading the church in faithfulness to Scripture.
Within this plurality, the Lead Pastor serves as first among equals, functioning as Chairman of the Leadership Team and the primary preacher and teacher of the church. While the Lead Pastor provides directional leadership for the teaching ministry, he serves alongside the other Elders in mutual accountability and shared governance.
Each Elder meets the biblical qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. In accordance with our understanding of Scripture, the office of Elder—and the doctrinal and pastoral authority entrusted to that office—is reserved for biblically qualified men.
Where an Elder is married, his wife may, but is not required to, serve alongside him as a full member of the Leadership Team. If she serves, she contributes her wisdom, gifts, and perspective to the team’s shared leadership and decision-making. However, she does not hold the office of Elder or exercise the doctrinal and pastoral authority entrusted to that office.
Our plurality of eldership provides accountability, shared wisdom, and faithful pastoral care, ensuring that the church is shepherded by a team rather than a single individual. Together, our Elders seek to lead with humility, prayer, biblical conviction, and a deep love for Christ and His church.
